how do you turn off internet firewall!!

after installing mcafee suite 8.0 the problems started, i started getting errors, programs stopped running, and it wouldnt clear the spyware (which is why i installed it in the first place), so i decided to uninstall it.
after that, anything i do on the internet or a program like shareaza they all tell me that i have firewall turned on.
other that network connections> local internet connections>propertiers>advanced>then check the box , does anyone know any other way to turn off firewall, cause i did that but i still have firewall and i really need to turn it off cause my downloads are going really slow!,
please can anyone help, its getting extremely annoying now and i need a solution other than formatting my whole harddisk and starting fresh!

It is very unlikely that your firewall is slowing down your file transfers. You should take into consideration your internet connection speed, and the speed at which the host can supply the file.

I DO NOT recommend you turn off the Firewall completely. Your computer will be hacked into quicker then you can say :swear: If you are adament however, you need to go to start > control panel > Windows Firewall. Then select 'OFF (not recommended)'.

Are you behind a router with a hardware firewall? If not, then leave the firewall on until you get one or obtain a full software firewall like Kiero Personal Firewall.

i am behind a router, mabye the router has a firewall,
by the way i have sevice pack 2, so i cannot go to control panel>windows firewall>off , is there another way to do this using service pack 1?
also, my computer, before the firewall incident was never hacked, downloads were fine, no viruses, nothing was wrong, so i dont think getting hacked is a problem, but with this firewall, some p2p programs are not even connecting!!
