I just overclocked my XFX 6800 from 325 Mhz and 750 Mhz to 360/815, needless to say the card overclocks poorly as that's as high as it would go and will probably only give me about 3 extra fps in most games. But I want to know how the rest of you did, so basically what have you overclocked and how'd it go. Just post the before and after frequencies and look cool. And to save thread space I just was wondering if you can underclock a card or CPU (or even ram), I'm assuming you definately can, other than heat I don't know why you'd want to but I guess some companies do it to differenciate between chips with the same core. Thanks
Ive never underclocked/overclocked any of my pcs. I was always goin to but never really needed to and so couldnt be bothered
I haven't personally oced any of my stuff, but in the past, AT has done it to my stuff. It usually doesn't stay very long though, as I dont especially like the worries that come with OCing. I OCed my old Athlon XP 2500 to a 2800 and My ex gf's 2500 to a 3200 (works like a charm). I have yet to OC my current CPU (Athlon 64 3500+), but I'm thinking about it.
Wow, 2500 to 3200, nice work! :good:, I don't really have a clue how to properly oc my CPU but I wish I could, I hate it being below 2Ghz, seems like I'm cheated when the skt 754 3000+ runs at 2Ghz and mine is only at 1.8.
That 2500 to 3200 was almost natural. It actually ran better as a 3200 then as a 2500. The system wouldn't even boot without freezing until I OCed it.
I once overclocked a duron 1600 to run at 2ghz not sure if that is good or not as im not exactly in the know regarding overclocking i was just trying it out lol
my 6800GTs past Ultras--- my p3 from my old computer, brand name compaq disabled any bios overclocking but thanks to some third party programs and a handful of magazines i managed to sneak by and overclock it 0.06ghz, but beyond that it went unstable, so its at 1.06 WOO
Haha! yeah, I'm sure it made all the difference. Your GT's are pat the Ultra level!! Holy crap, nice one:good:
I got my 6600GT from msi from.... 500/1000 to 600/1200 Runs good but a little hot if I benchmark. Pretty cool in games though. My highest temp was 75c during a benchmark... Also my a64 3000+ from 1.8ghz to 2ghz....
update : my 6600gt is now running 45c under load thanks to my giant 3 cooler and my vatec tornado case fans...now to OC more!
Well, I've never OC'ed my video card or RAM, but I have OC'ed my CPU. OC Guru from ABIT makes it uber easy. That was on my old computer. I went from 3.2 Ghz to around 3.4 Ghz but it was a Prescott so I couldn't do much more. I now have, as you can see in my sig, an AMD 3500+. I haven't overclocked it yet, because I haven't gotten my system to consistantly boot swear: the bugginess of XP 64 Bit Ed. DO NOT BUY IT, not yet at least). Once I have it running right I expect to hit near 2.5 Ghz with my kick-:swear: HSF. Once I do that I figure I will start going up on my X800 Pro.
wonder how far i can kick up a 3700+ 939 guessin up to 2.5 on stock? (only .3 change but on sensible temperatures, well acceptable)
With a 90um process I'd say go for it dude, when are you going to buy? Though if I were you I wouldn't throw out your 3800! That's a great proc dude.
With a 3500+ Venice? You should easliy hit 2.6-2.8. I once took my P4 2.66 to 2.95 but my mobo didn't have an AGP/PCI lock, so I got no increase in fps. Took my GeForce Ti4200 from 250/460 to 290/630, but no real improvement.
