If a game takes up 1.3 gigs of memory or so and i have 1GB would i get any noticable increase in performance. Also how much memory should be used when your on the desktop, mine sometimes says like 330MB and right now says 440MB with this one page open. What specific things cause heavey ram usage.

No matter how much RAM you have, Windows will swap heavily, bottlenecking on your hard drive. The high memory usage you're seeing could be a lot of things. If you've got MS Office in your startup, remove it. Also, certain antivirus software *cough*norton*cough* seems to be built on the assumption that the resources of your entire PC should be dedicated to that one program.

well with everything off in the little toolbar, i use 296MB of system mem, also to rephrase my original question since i notice it isnt very clear,

how much of an increase in performance would i notice in a game that uses about 350MB of system memory more than i have (i have 1GB the game uses about 1.3GBs)
would getting extra memory produce any noticable increase in performance.

Hmm, depends on the game. It could use strange caching methods to do certain things, which would skew the apparent memory consumption. Also, if you haven't already done a spyware sweep or two, that stuff can really hammer your resources.
