i've looked through adept & synaptic but can't find it, tryed looking for the apt-get command and nada, nothing, zilsh, some site recommend running it though a video plugin in FF, some sites recommend running it through an emulated XP install through Wine & FF, some sites recommend copying some files from an XP install and use wine is it just me or is Shockwave a tw4t to install, what is the best way to install it (so the bl**dy thing works[ot]i'm about ready to throw this bl**dy computer through the window, i won't though, cos its getting cold outside[/ot] Edit: i can't even get it from Adobe
Unfortunately, shockwave is not available natively in linux. Flashplayer is though... I've never even thought to install shockwave so I dont know how well it would work to port it through wine.
i think i might have to bite the bullit and whack it through Wine & FF 4 Win, unless someone has a better suggestion - i refuse to let it beat me cheers fred:beer:
I dont understand why adobe would already go through the trouble of making flashplayer for linux, but not making shockwave for linux. What a shame. Maybe someday, but until then, I guess it's either wine or nothing. Be sure to let us know how it went... good luck, donkey.
right, sorted it, basically what you do is install Wine (on kubuntu, in my case) then download FF 4 win, install it, then install Shockwave as you would in Win, except when you click "install now" on this page there's a delay (i used this time to have a cig) wah lah working shockwave, test it here BTW: to run a site with shockwave you'll have to run FF (Wine) plus you need to install Flash into FF (Wine) too (if you want Flash also)
although its nice to know i can get Shockwave running, i think that this is a fairly big hack / workaround for just Shockwave to work, although if anyone wants Shockwave working in linux then i think you should also use "Foxmarks Bookmark Synchronizer" to keep your bookmarks common between FF on linux and FF 4 Win run through Wine, it is comfortable to know i can get it running if i want, I'll probably leave FF & Wine installed so i can run Shockwave if i want Edit: thank you, well i got it working, so it didn't beat me
