    hello forum,

so my friends dog chewed through her power cord on the part that goes from the small box to the laptop (image attached).[IMG] i figured i could just cut the cord, solder all the wires back together and tape it off and its OK. i did, and it worked. but i dont understand the wiring.

from outside to inside this is how it was:
    rubber insulation
silver wire (not sure it was actual silver but that was the color)
    rubber insulation
    silver wire
    rubber insulation
    silver wire
(also image attached were black is rubber and red is wire)[IMG]

im trying to understand how this works, so i can understand...how it works. all three had to be connected for this to work (ie inner wire and middle wire made the light on the power cord box turn on but didnt actually make the laptop charge)

i understand that i soldered wire A to wire A and it made it work again, but i kinda want to understand what wire A does so im not just a bumbling idiot with a soldering iron.
