HP ScanJet 3970 bad scanned image

I have an hp scan jet 3970 that was working fine on windows XP. This days its scanned image output becomes filled with green stain and the image lights become too bright. It is hard to identify the image. I didn't change any of its default settings (its default resolution is 200 dpi).
Any one who has any idea I would be very happy to have it, please help!

Strange problem, but if you can see a noticable difference in the scanning light then it might be a hardware problem with the scanner.
