HTTP Error 407

I have access to the internet at work through a proxy server. I think we are using Microsoft Proxy Server 2.0. Internet Explorer and Firefox can access the internet through the proxy server no problem. There is a configuration script that is set in both browsers. However, Opera doesn't seem to work with the proxy. I've entered the configuration script, but it keeps asking me for a username and password (which I don't have). When I press cancel I get an error 407 - authentication required. IE and Firefox do not ask for this information.

Anyone know why Opera doesn't work whilst Firefox does?

Anyone know how to crack a proxy server so I can get access to the net with Opera? ;) Impotence, if you're reading this, you're good at hacking aren't you :D How can I work out the Proxy Server password?
 
Your asking about cracking.... you would need to brute force the password, which is very noisy and i doubt your workplace would be very happy about it!

First off, by "configuration script" do you mean you have enterd the proxy ip into the connection settings?

here's a couple of things ive thought of,

could the proxy server be dening you access based on your user-agent string? (I belive that opera allows you to 'lie' and say that its internet explorer / firefox

If there is a password, any machine which can go on the internet (without prompting for a password) must have it saved somewhere! (there are pleant of toolz for dumping IE passwords, as for firefox.... ive never looked)

Have a really got myself such a reputation? :P lol.... i finaily got my own laptop today (no more live cds on my mums!).

Is anybody here going to dnsclan this summer? (UK)... its around august in blackpool, a group of us where planning to go war-tramming :D its the same as war-driving cept we will be using blackpools transit system :P (hence why i need a laptop). If anyone else is planning on going give me a shout!

I do not know if i should call myself a 'hacker', i dont really think ive earned it.... i just see a problem (example: content filters), try to work out how it creates the problem (example: it blacklists urls), and find a solution (example: use IP addresses or proxy servers). and anyone with a brain can use metasploit! (its not a "script-kiddie" thing as long as you understand WHY the exploit works).... so im more just overly curious with some things :D

Logic is the only thing simple enough to make sence to me....

I've entered the proxy server address and port number. My work uses a script to automatically configure a client computer to use the proxy server. Under Internet Explorer, this is what it looks like:

"Use Automatic Configuration Script" is ticked. And in the box it says:

just a few more questions!

Brute Forcing passwords is EXTREMELY noisy, and would also cause a big slowdown on the target (bandwidth and processing) and is all to easy to prevent, this is not the anwser your looking for!

Does your company (yahoo? or was that someone else...) allow you to use opera? [If yes, talk to an admin! he/she will be able to sort it in seconds]

when using firefox, is this installed / set up by the user or by an admin? If its a user that does it (and firefox works, after entering IP etc), i doubt therz a password on the proxy!

just a strange idear..... but what happens if you dont specift a proxy?

Opera and Firefox are not supported by our tech team (who are all a bunch of 'know-nothings' anyway). Actually I shouldn't have installed Firefox in the first place. I don't have administrative rights and I was only able to install Firefox and Opera because of Windows 2000's poor security :D

Internet Explorer was already set up. I had to manually set up Firefox by copying the configuration script in to Firefox's settings. Unfortunately this hasn't worked with Opera.

Sometimes I get asked for a proxy password when I use Firefox. But when I press cancel the page loads anyway :D Opera just won't have it though - it's password or nothing!

Nothing. It doesn't work at all

Well it sounds like an issue with opera then, BUT, i think there is a username/password in the config script, but its been obfusculated so the password is 'calculated' and then sent (as oppesed to putting it in plain text in the script)

I would help further, but my C++ is non-existant (i got upto "hello world" before i forgot about it.... ).

edit: yeah, its prolly quite a good idear that you remove the script! just an idear..... but if you re-write the script to print is output (as in to the screen) and compiled/ran it you should get the password from it! or ask AT or Sniper to take a look at it, im sure there confident with C! (and hopefully trustable with it ;))
 
In my office, there is no problem using any browser but when I run Windows Media Player then it asks me a password. I enter my username and password which I use for login and it works. Why dont you try something like me?
 
I don't believe it! After 10 months trying to get Opera working at my work, it finally does :)

We've started using a different proxy server and this one (although hideously slow) seems to be compatible!

No more Firefox for me! ;)

what does opera have over firefox!

congrats tho, as its a new proxy... im guessing its a new password/script/whatever, if you think so too can i get a copy of the old one? (i want to have a decent look at it, see if i was right!)
