Ok i was on the boxing forum i go onto and one of the posters had made a joke about me being like Hitler as I wasn’t a fan of Russian fighters so i created an alt account of Hitler to have a joke back it was nothing serious at all and I didn’t say anything racist, Now i have been banned while i was on it at work i had an message come through saying i was banned for inciting genocide etc and i have been reported to my ISP for investigation, I hadn’t said anything wrong and wasn’t meaning to be offensive to anyone. I was stupid doing this during my lunch break at work and i know they can easily trace it back to me, I have tried sending a message to the forum but they wont reply. Anyone know if the ISP will likely chase this up? Otherwise i will be sacked.

Worst case scenario, you'll be banned from the forums and from your ISP but again thats worst case. You might get a final warning from both but in any case i suggest you explain to them your real intentions of the post and apologize to them.
They might cut you some slack if you've been a long time user of this forum; they'll see that your serious and not a joker

probably not as ISPs only, usually (as with everything else) but to cover yourself, i would probably write a really apologetic / kiss ass email or letter to your ISP stating that it was never your intention to offend anyone

BTW: make sure you know nobody who could be offended enough to make a complaint

I think it's just a threat. Do you really think that an ISP cares about that? They only care if you share copyrighted material or are involved in a big crime.

The only thing you should worry about is whether your work views this as a sackable offence. It doesn't sound like they have much ground in accusing you of inciting genocide.

I would just be honest with everyone involved, don't try to hide or obscure the truth, and give humility and apologies where each are due, respectively. People do tend to get a little caught up in the moment and overreact these days about relatively harmless things. In all fairness though, if you went around pretending to be a malevolent dictator with a tendency to massacre people, you'd probably get banned here too. Though I really doubt anybody here would bother reporting it to your ISP. So what I'm saying is that putting things in perspective and taking away their "2-dimensional bad guy" impression of you will likely go a long way.
