unfortunatly my motherboard dictates that i need to get a pci graphics card, but i want something that will play directx 9 My processor is a celeron 1.4GHz and i have 384MbSDRAM. Im not too sur what graphics card to go for i have the XFX Geforce FX5200 256MB in mind or the PNY GeForce FX5200 128MB PCI VO but am not too sur if they'll do the job or are compatable with my processor

Any PCI video card will work with your system. But its still not going to be great performance.
Try the XFX card it'll be your best bet.

If you can find one, I believe there's some GeForce FX 5700's around that might give better performance.

well i think to play directx 9 games u need atleast an agp card with 128mb..try nvidia geforce fx 5900xt...but your motherboard has to have an agp slot..hope this helps if your into games

His motherboard doesn't have an AGP slot. I wouldn't recommend the 5700 if I knew he could get something better. The 5200 and 5700 do support DX9 just like the 5900's. The thing that's going to choke performance is the PCI bus. Today's video cards pump more data than the PCI bus can push through. A PCI 5700 and an AGP 5700 won't perform the same due to this alone.

If you're going to be doing moderate/heavy gaming its better to just get an AGP mobo now and you'll still have an option to upgrade it.

Yea addis has a point, but i believe the highest pci video card is a FX5500 with 128mb, for about 86$ but yea im with a cruddy compaq presario 5000 i feel you, but i had enough money in ur case i would jus get a new system with a cheap athlon xp which is a very good chip that packs a lot of bang in for the buck. I'm jus building a brand new system, n so u don't waste ur money ur gonna upgrade anyway soon so id jus recommend buildin urself an athlon xp system for about 300$ to 500$ f you can afford it now. and they have a agp slot which gives you enough you need for now.
