i need to improve my internet connection

i have bt broadband and its supposed to be high speed. but when i do a ping check its at 47-49ms! im runnint off an extention, could that be a cause of its slowness?

is there anyway i can improve its speed?

How long is the extension?

Firewall performance can also slow down browsing and network speed.
If you have one, try disabling it and see what you get.

 

Yeh the strength will be die down the longer the cable.

 

also, what type of extention is it[ot]solid core telecom cable or a flexible extention lead[/ot]
