Ive been creating a gaming clan site over the past few months and ive got to a tricky part. The site needs a forum. I know nothing about scripting (except what folder to upload them to) and use dreamweaver so my html knowledge is lacking. Anyone know of any sites that offer ready made forums which can be pasted into your site. Ive found a few which offer free forums but the are hosted by that website so arent inegrated into your own.
PHPBBfree and others are good, but if you want to host it yourself, try YabbForum. Its open source and I think you can just put it into your own site.
You'll need mySQL to do it properly, if you want users to register etc. (And ultimately your server must have PHP capabilities). Sniper's the one to really help you out, but I can provide some assistance. You will probably need CMS as well. Check this out for a free one, it can be customised to your needs, and isn't integrated with another site. http://www.chipmunk-scripts.com/page.php?ID=8
I think you just run a file called install.php and it configures your forum for you. Pretty easy as long as you have a PHP and MySQL enabled server.
Cool, I'm glad someone asked as I kinda wanted that sort of thing for my site (whenever that gets ready to be put on the 'net).
i recommend phpbb.. once installed very easy to change themes and customize. the admin panel is cool.
Yes but unless you get the PHPBBforfree then you have to pay. And with free you can't host the forum yourself.
use www.forumer.com u can host IPB or PHP w/ them. only prob is thers no FTP but u dont hav 2 upload the forums 2 the site. i hav 2 sites w/ them
I use phpBB2 which I host on my server - i got this for free from their website. The only problem I had was that it does not support PHP 5. Then you have to set up the MySQL database but its very nice to use and easy to setup.
YaBB and PHPbb are pretty user-friendly, and from a moderator standpoint, they're pretty easy to work with. Now, HWF is run off vBulletin, and the development is pretty exciting. Now, I've used vBulletin more than any other, so I am biased. For starters, PHPbb or YaBB would be a good thing. I know that nForcersHQ has been using PHPbb since it's inception, and that seems to have been well-tailored to the needs of the site.
