    Hi,

I have a P4 3.2GHz CPU which is ok but I want to enter the world of Dual Core processing power so I want to make sure I get a CPU that is compatible with my board.

I would appreciate if any of you could answer a couple of quick questions I have, for info I know that my board is a sockt 775 so am aware that any new processor has to be this type, but please advise on the following:

If my board takes a standard Pentium 4 CPU, does this mean it will take any kind of Pentium 4 including a Dual Core Pentium 4 ?

Does this also apply to any other kind of processor or board, i.e. if CPU-Z identified a board that accepts Celeron D for instance, does that mean it would accept any Celeron D (with the correct socket type of course) ?

I also have a wiered question about some RAM I bought, it may be straight forward to you guys and not wiered at all, but I purchased some RAM based on the info I got from CPU-Z, sisoft Sandra, and the sticker stuck to my current, and based on this I bought some 1GB modules with exactly the same specs apart from being bigger capacity, but it does not work at all, I get no boot just a series of constant post code beeps.

I checked & triple checked, and my board definitely takes 2GB total RAM in 2 x 1GB modules with the specs: DDR2 PC2-4300 533MHz DIMM. These are the exact specs of the current 512MB modules I have and I purchased the exact same specs of 1GB modules apart from the new one's were PC2-4200, but from what I understand this is the same stuff with the calculations rounded down so my board can accept this also, is this correct?

If all the above is correct I am stumped as to why it won't work, I took it out and reseated it correctly many times so it isn't that, it just acts as if it is incompatible even thought it looks exactly right. - Am I missing something? - PLease can someone advise me on this.

    Hi,

No, I'm not getting on very well with this site unfortunately.

    I didn't say I had a pentium 4 D, I said I had a pentium 4. Then after that I used a pentium 4D as an example.

I asked another question a few days ago that someone else finally responded but with another question and since I answered that nobody has bothered actually getting back to me.

Not trying to be rude but the examples didn't actually have much to do with the question at all so it hasn't been answered in the slightest.

I love forums, I honestly do, I think they are an invaluable source of information usually but nobody is reading or answering any of my questions or post, and when I search I realise that there many other people questions that are left unanswred too.

    Never mind.

Hello "PG 1252".Read your query and the doubts you would want to clarify. The explanation is big so it is suggested that you go through the complete technical analysis of your CPU -P4 3.2GHz .It has a detailed report in terms of configuration and compatibility.Click here to read in detail.

well first of all can you tell me your mobo's name if it is not newer or same with i945p chipsets you cannot upgrade it with a dual core cpu

secondly, running a pc2-4300 and pc2-4200 may show a little bit slow down it will be better if you can use two 1gb ddr2-533 or ddr2-667 sticks this will also help the dual channel memory interface's stability

    Hi,

    Thanks for the reply.

I found a link on the web to my actual motherboard, this will have everything in it you are looking for: Foxconn - Support - Downloads

The manual covers a few motherboard models and my particular model is RC4107MA-RS2H

I would very much also like to know which would be the top 2 processors I could upgrade to for gaming purposes, this is my main aim.

If you find what you need to help with my question of CPU upgrade it would be a great help.

    Please advise - Thanks!

after going through many pages of crap on the net[ot]pointlessly[/ot]some or all P4D CPUs are dual core

i think the D in P4D stands for Dual Core

i have found a few Dual Core P4Ds though, so, you'll have to be very careful when selecting a new CPU

what family is your CPU from ? (mines Ceder Mill) if you match the CPU family of you CPU & also match the architecture (mines built on the 65nm die)

Edit: or you could give Foxconn a call

I was reading the net day before yesterday and read about the Pentium D, and yes they are dual core. I was getting a bit excited about it because the manual for my board say it accepts Pentium D, then I researched many gaming tests and it came bottom of all of them.

Bloody shame actually, but that's a no no because of that because I do a fair bit of gaming.

The best looking option would be the Pentium 4 Extreme edition, but they look well expensive even on ebay, if I am looking at the correct type, they cost over £200.

i'm not sure if it will function in your mobo, but heres a Dual Core for £150[ot]but i'm not sure you will see much greater performance, as i've never used them[/ot]
