I have a 320 gb sata drive and a 200 gb ide drive, is it ok to run them on the same machine, If so does it matter which is the master and which slave I have installed XP SP2 as the sticky suggested and i still cant see the whole 320gb drive (the 200 has not yet been installed) Can i copy an operating system HDD image from a IDE drive to a SATA drive? Cheese
yeah, you've said the 320Gb drive is SATA, what interface does the 200Gb drive use ? SATA drives arn't cofigured as master and slave, as they are attached to separate cables the BIOS may be restricting the usable HDD space, if this is the case, the easiest solution is to add a PCI SATA card yeah, but it's easier to use one of many 3rd party tools / applications
You'll want to check Disk Management. Start/Settings/Control Panel/Administrator Tools/Computer Management. Expand 'Storage' if it's not already, and then go to 'Disk Management'. The remaing part of your hard drive probably just needs to be formatted. You can do this by right-clicking on the free space of the hard drive and electing to format said space. If you install XP then a service pack, this is how you'll need to do it to get it recognized. You should be able to attach your 200GB without issue with XP installed.
