well if anybody read the FFXI graphic problem post you know what card I have, and can also see why I need advice. I unfortunatly am a single parent and cant afford alot. I have a Geforce FX 5500 pci card. it runs the game but sometimes it slows down, causes some detail problems as well. I was just offered a Geforce TI 4200 apg8x . should I just stick with what I have. or go for the TI 4200 model. or perhaps somebody could offer there advice on a better card for under 70$ which would be better than both.

EDIT: forgot to add some specs. both cards have 128mb ram on them as well.

Thankyou Addis . I went ahead and bought the card you showed me. man I feel ripped off now. I spent 99 bucks on that FX 5500.. I feel like a complete :swear: now

EDIT: just out of curiosity is this card able to be overclocked?? the FX 5500 that is. I might as well use my 99 bucks wisely and place it in another computer of mine

To answer your question, yes, it probably can be overclocked, but since it's PCI, overclocking it won't make any noticable performance increases anyway due the poor bandwidth of the PCI interface.

Exactly. If your computer has an AGP slot, you'd be better off to switch over to that. The Ti4200 could be better due to the simple fact that it only comes in an AGP flavor. AGP doesn't have to share it's bandwith unlike the PCI slots do.

Now, if you don't have an AGP slot, then you'd be better off to save that money and look at upgrading to something else in the motherboard department.

What Addis suggested is really the way to go, the card may not be new but it will still play modern games pretty well. I agree with B, if you don't have an AGP slot don't bother with a new PCI card, you pretty much have the best PCI offers and if you're not happy with it there's only one option left...upgrade the old motherboard AND gfx card.

yeah. no need to upgrade the board, the video card is the oldest thing I have in this computer. problem arises that Im overseas military in England. the Military base offers crap for cards....CRAPP!!!! best thing they have is a P.O.S all-in-wonder 9800 for a freakin $199 bucks it is AGP which raised my intereste a bit..and of course for some reason the BX(Military exchange) only carries PCI 128mb flavore cards..unless I want to go for the 9550 ATI agp card.or the one stated above. (eye twitches violently) ok now that I got that off my chest I do have a APG slot. I never worked with ATI cards before. how does the all in wonder cards measure up to the true gaming cards? would it be worth buying this $199 dollor card or should I just order online and wait the 2 months for it to get here

Two months is a long time but you could get a better card for less than $200 no prob. My suggestions depending on what you'd want to spend would be a 6600GT/X800GT in AGP of course, better yet would be an AGP X800GTO (they do have em but you've got to look around), and higher up would be a 6800GT which is about $300.
