Anti-Trend, where did you get that great pic of the IDE/HD hookup? - dc
I couldn't find a good visual aide and we get IDE questions all the time, so I made it myself using Dia.

Thread split from here due to off-topic content. Here's the post he's talking about:

Here's a diagram of a typical IDE setup.

I went and checked out the link for Dia you gave me, but I couldn't make heads or tails out of what the guy was saying on his page. It's definitely a nift utility just not for me. Thanks for drawing the diagram - only one suggestion, can you make it larger? I can hardly see it.

I did and it opened a new browser window and that image is very small. I had to squint to see it.

It's 951x617, not very small if you ask me. You probably are experiencing image auto-scaling. Once you bring up the picture in a new window, try clicking on the image once more. If all else fails, click here.

I did try clicking again. It opens in a new window, but I can't click it again. It is just very small. I tried viewing it both in IE and FireFox.

How, exactly, are you opening the picture? What I'm asking you to do is follow the link, not open up the tiny thumbnail in a new window. In other words, click here.

Ok, I see you started a new thread out of this. Back in the other thread (where you first posted the link) I was clicking the link in your post. It would open in a new window, in that window was the diagram, but it was very small. I put my mouse pointer over it and click, nothing happens. It is not another link to a bigger picture.

This is the URL you first posted:

This is the URL you have posted in this thread:

Notice how the first link just shows a small thumbnail and that's it? The first URL was the problem. I see now you have fixed it. Wouldn't it have been easier just to say, Oops, sorry, here's the right link? lol

I didn't post the wrong url, nor did I change it later. I'm afraid you opened it wrong. The first one is the thumbnail that you see above, the second is the link to the full view of the image. I have it so that you see the thumbnail, but when you click it you are taken to the full image. Understand now?

I really don't think you understand, so I'm going to explain this one more time for future reference. When you click on the thumbnail, do not right-click on it and click "View Image" - that would only open up the thumbnail again in a new window (which is what I suspect you've been doing all along). The point I'm trying to get across to you -- indeed the point I've been trying to make thus far -- is that you just click on the image and you'll be taken to a page containing the larger version. Yes, the thumbnail (the small picture) is there to serve as a hot-link to the larger one. No special interaction required, just click it. The reason I posted the hotlink to the larger image by itself without the thumbnail was not because I "posted the wrong one" earlier on, but because I suspected that you were merely opening the thumbnail in a new window. Posting the link by itself without the thumbnail eliminated that variable, and incidentally you were able to successfully navigate to the full version of the image. In any case, I'm tired of going back and forth on this, so I'm closing this thread.

dcloud, Anti-Trend did post the correct link, it was a small image linking to the larger version. Also he did not change the image to make it work.

If you go to User CP > Edit Options > Tick Show Images, you will see it works correctly, if you untick it you get the problem you are having. This is no ones fault and should not happen! I will look to see whats going on, since it should display a link to both images.

Heh, sorry I got so frustrated! I thought you were ignoring my advice, but I can see what went wrong now. As Sniper pointed out, if you had "Show Images" disabled in preferences, you'd only see a url to the thumbnail, not the thumbnail itself (which in turn linked to the full-sized image). Or the same results could occur if you were viewing the link as a guest and were not signed in -- guests aren't allowed to see the pictures we post here. In either case you would have been prevented from seeing the proper link, you would have only seen the thumbnail link. Anyway, hope there's no hard feelings.

All the best,
-AT
