Hi there. I have a Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000 motherboard and 1,5gb of RAM(2x256 and 1gb). All worked well for a while when one day my computer ceased to start. In my effort to find out what caused this, i soon found out it was the motherboard battery(i have the motherboard for about 2years and 1/2). Bought a new battery, replaced it, problem is that now when i boot my computer..it only shows me 1,3gb of ram and just before my windows boot screen should show up, the pc reboots. Now the fun part. 1) I thought it might be the RAM so i moved them around removed some of them and this is what i found out. One of the 2 cards of ram(256mb) is detected..when i put them both..it shows me..768mb of ram instead of 512....when i put the other card of 256..it shows me 512ram..and does not boot...the 1gb ram card is shown as 512...the only way to acctually boot into windows is if i put the 1gb card and the "good" 256 card...showing me 768ram instead of 1256mb...at least it enters windows..
    2) the bios was already up-to-date..so i tried resetting the CMOS(i pulled out the battery for 30min..to be sure:) ), i downgraded the bios, upgraded again...nothing...
3)i did a series of tests with ultimate boot cd and dozens of motherboard benchmarks and every test is passed, nothing is malfunctioning according to these...
please help..i have never encountered such a problem and i just can't figure out what's causing it...thanks in advance

a good place to start is by testing the RAM, download Memtest and test each stick separately, you should leave memtest running over night, there is a problem with the RAM if memtest returns more than about 200 errors[ot]flashing the BIOS is NOT a good idea, if anything goes wrong you turn your mobo into a v v pretty paperweight[/ot]

BTW: memtest either burns to a bootable CD or a bootable floppy

Edit: try switch the RAM around again first (as one of the DIMM slots may be faulty or have dust in it, try to see if the problem is based in one stot)
