In a pickle. Want to stop using BT, can i use other ISP...

Hello gang, I need major assistance here.

My dad is wanting to say bye-bye to BT coz they're charging him more for using cheque to pay bills. Only problem is I'm so attached to the inner'net i'd probably go nuts without it.

at mo i'm with "Madasafish" broadband (ISP). Can he disconnect BT phone and keep me on broadband at same time. If not, is there any alternitifs. Will I have to go only skybroadband coz i have fears if i switch to cable or another provider people will come round and start messing wiv the phone cable or have to install a new line around the house, is this true?

yes & no, BT own the equipment in the telephone servers so you have to pay them the line rental only, however, if you switched to an ISP that also provide VoIP services you could make telephone calls over the internet[ot]VoIP calls are very cheap of free[/ot]

yes, do some reasearch, there are a lot of companys that provide both net & phone[ot]like Tescoand Carphone Warehouse

Sky Broadband

thats another one, but i'd wait about a year before going with Sky, to give them time to sort out all the problems, cos satellite broadband is still very new

no, with cable internet new cable needs to come into you house (assuming you live in an area where cable is available) but everything is transfered through this new cable (internet, telephone, TV & possibly films in the near future

not nessicerely, i should have mentioned this[ot]sorry[/ot]some companies actually pay BT[ot]so you don't have to[/ot]i think Carphone Warehouse does this[ot]but i do NOT recommend them[/ot]just do some research before you sign up to anything
