    Hello folks,

A friend of mine had given me an Advent T9208. Not a new machine, but it's a few years younger and much faster than what I'm currently using.

The drive has been reformatted and there are no drivers for any of the devices. :( I'm currently running Windows XP and have tracked down the driver for the network card, so can now access the internet. :)

The motherboard has Intel Pentium D 945 processor (3.4 GHz), and I'd like to upgrade RAM and graphics card so it can run Windows 7 - 64bit. I've found a PDF manual online for the motherboard (Microstar MS- 7187) and this states maximum ram of 4gb available. (Supports four DDR2 SDRAM memory modules / Supports Dual channel DDR2)

My question is, will running Windows 7 - 64 bit version allow me to install and use more than 4GB Ram, or is the limit stated in the manual a result of hardware constraint? My only other issue concerns the graphic card, but I'll create a thead in the other forum for this.

I hope someone can advise on this.

    Many thanks

    Myles

If the Motherboard will only handle 4 gigs max, then I would install Windows 7 32 bit.. it will be faster..But In Windows 7 32 bit, it will only show/use 3.25 gigs of ram.
Windows 7 64 bit will work,But with only 4 gigs, then you will not notice a difference..

Ah, OK, thanks for the advice. I was wondering if the 4GB limit was just because of running 32bit software? If the motherboard states maximum 4GB ram, then that's because of hardware contraints, yes? It sounds like win 7 - 32bit is the way to go. :)

The Amount of Memory goes by your Motherboard, Most Newer Motherboards today Will have 4gigs and up... The OS depends on you..
