Installed new RAM and its not detected on system properties

    I just installed 512 mb of ram in a second slot and its not showing up. I had 768 mb ram from 512mb + 256mb. I replaced the 256 mb with another 512mb and its showing that the slot is empty. I took the 512mb out and put the 256mb in and its showing up. Is the RAM that I bought just broken?
