    Hi there:

I was wondering if anyone could help me with the following; my hard drive has begun to make whirring noises upon boot up, therefore i am concerned that the inevitable crash may soon happen! This being the case i want to install a new hard drive, however i do not posses any driver disks etc... iam only in possession of the OS disk!

In this situation would it be advisable to set-up the new hard drive as my slave and manually copy relevent files over to the new drive? If so, what is the best method for such an opperation?

Any help regarding this matter would be very much appreciated.

    Olly

You won't be able to copy the relevant files across, such as drivers, as a) you'd have to get every single file for a specific driver, including all the .dll's, which is more trouble than its worth, and b) it needs to be installed into the OS - much like if you install a game on one pc and try and copy it to another, it won't work.

Your best bet is to download the latest drivers now, and then rip those on to a CD, then install Windows, and then install the drivers.

Files such as documents can be copied across with no problems, however.
