I am about to buy a new laptop and am undecided about what mobile processor I should buy, intel's cetrino DUO or AMD's turion 64bit x2? could someone help with my choice and bare in mind that windows vista is about to be released and I will be upgrading. The laptop will be used for many purposes, however I will be using it for photoshop editing for my university course, hence the choice to buy the centrino DUO or turion x2. Also the shop price must be kept in mind on the two following laptops as I will not be buying online, only in-store. I have looked at these two laptops; Comet - Computing - Laptops - ACER - 15.4" widescreen laptop < centrino DUO Comet - Computing - Laptops - HEWLETT PACKARD - Mid level laptop < turion x2
Welcome to hardwareforums rodderz88! :beer: AMD, of course [and DUO = 2, x2 = 2... there both dual core!) the clock speed is higher (0.13Ghz but what the hey ), the bus speed is almost 2.5x that of the Intel (Intel = 667Mhz, AMD = 1600Mhz). However, the AMD's cache isn't as big as the Intel's cache (But the AMD has a much higher bus speed, equals out?). But the main point you want to look at is the AMD is a 64-bit machine, and the Intel is only a 32-bit machine. Bus speed (in simple terms) = speed at which the processor can accept work (like a speed limit) 32/64-bit = the max WEIGHT of the 'bus' the processor can deal with. NOTE: Even if you are only running the standard 32-bit windows, its worth going for a 64-bit machine to help future proof your purchase (makes it last longer basically) The Graphics card on the AMD has 128Mb of IT'S OWN memory and can reserve system ram if you want it too... so the Intel laptop having more video memory means nothing (i wouldnt trust the reported sizes on those pages for video memory, as that might include reserved system memory) Other than that, the laptops are almost identical (lol, joking... the AMD laptop kicks Intels ass). PS yeah I'm a AMD fan boy, but i believe ive been fair in comparing these laptops.
thanks i was thinkin amd because i know that the 3d power now was better for 3d apps (photoshop) but i also looked at the price difference of £200!
