Internet Explorer Stalls Computer

I recently downloaded something that caused my virus to pop up ever since that my firewall is off everytime I turn on the computer and when I turn on the Internet Explorer it stall the computer and I have to restart it everything else works MSN WORD ect.... any ideas I did virus scan but doesn't solve anything THANKS

What Anti virus are you using ? go to Kaspersky website an scan there...Do you have another browser like Firefox ? If not download Firefox and try it to see how everything works..I personally don't use IE, Never did and never will.. I use Firefox or Kmeleon..
