    Hi

A long time ago we had intruders on our wireless network, and it was my fault because there was no security on. I turned on MAC Address filtering and WEP 128bit and the intruder went.

Now, the security is still on but once again the intruder is showing up and the wireless and internet lights flash when all of our computers are off. The router is a Belkin F5D7632-4.

When I tried to change the settings just a minute ago, it came up with "duplicate ip addresses administrating" or something similar, and the IP address that it said was administrating was 192.168.2.3, which I later discovered was the intruder.

Any ideas if it's possible to crack MAC Address Filtering AND WEP 128 bit? If so, what can be done?

    Thanks, Thomas

P.S see pic to see what I mean, it's a few screenshots

Its definately possible to crack it, WEP is incredibly insecure, and MAC filtering can be defeated with a few easily available tools. To get this guy out, you'll need to use WPA security, and use a strong passphrase, otherwise it any WEP will be cracked within 1 hour.

Thanks, I'll change it when I figure out how to use WPA with Windows XP Wireless networking. For the time being I've turned back on wireless and blocked IP Address 192.168.2.3 from everything.

    Thanks, Thomas

Keep in mind that it's even easier to change one's IP than one's MAC. He'll be back! You might want to disable wireless and use only a hard-wired connection until you can get your security hardened.
