Hi I have just built a new system. Once I had set up the system and configured the BIOS settings I proceeded to install Vista. During install it would crash, give me the BSOD and sometimes not even get past the POST. I downclocked the memory to 533mhz and it seemed to stop the errors. I upped the memory to 1066 in the BIOS and then the system would not go past the POST. I again lowered the speed but disabled a fast boot in the BIOS and observed the memory test. It tests through the 4GB I have installed but gets to 3328MB, has a slight pause for about a second then jumps to 4128MB. Why would it do this? Is it because it is a bad memory chip? All the components are brand new. I will detail them below. Once I had finished installing Vista with the lower memory settings I ran the memory diagnostic tool. It restarted and performed the test and then told me that Windows has detected errors. My System: Asus M3A BIOS V.802 AMD Phenom Quad Core 9600 4GB Kingston DDR2 1066 5-5-5-15(timings are rated at that, my BIOS is Auto) Samsung 1000GB SATA2 GeForce 8800GTX Corsair HX 620W PSU Hope some one can help as its racking my brain! thanks Hannibal
Hi, If you think you have a memory error, try running the tool from Memtest86.com - Memory Diagnostic Let it run for a bit and see if it comes across any errors. If it does find errors, try running the sticks seperately so you can isolate which one is giving you trouble.
