Hi, i found this slimline version of windows xp, i have tried it, its 10 times faster than normal windows xp, my neigbour has been having problems with there pc, as its pretty old, only athlon xp and 512mb of ram, but its slow, i previously restored it for them, i am wondering, if i install slimline xp on his computer, with his product key off the back of his computer, will this be legal, as he allready has a copy of windows xp that he got with the computer.
I remember there being a Windows XP de-crapifier that removed a lot of excess programs, so that might be it. I don't remember there being any legal issues with it, but I'm not 100% certain of it's legality. I would think that if it were an issue, Microsoft would have sent lawyers to beat down the doors of the developers who did that.
cheers, i will have a look at that, just this windows slimline seems to be super decrapified, it even has all of the windows xp themese removed, and all of the background and has one background provided by the modders (eXperience), has no game, no help center, no messenger, no internet explorer even tho you can still access it, but its true bliss, but if its illigal, i will use de-crapifier. all i can seem to find is a Dell de-crapifier :s, but that only deletes the stuff that is loaded onto a pc that dell puts on, and doesent delete stuff like built in games and other programs that are built into windows.
Why not install an Operating System that wasn't crap to begin with? Why put up with all the bloat associated with Windows when you can run Linux? One of my biggest beefs with Windows is the fact that it trashes old hardware :x: Let's take my Celeron 500MHz, 128MB RAM computer for example. It could just about run Windows 2000 but not XP. However I can install an up to date Linux distribution such as VectorLinux on it. Vector is newer, faster and more stable then XP. In fact, my Celeron computer is probably overkill for VectorLinux. Now how's that? Back to your original question! I reckon it's probably illegal due to the closed source nature of Windows. But who knows?
Ahh, yes. From some reviews I've read, Dell does tend to preinstall a lot more crap than some other companies. I remember seeing some program to remove the excessive crapware installation on Dells over @ [H]ard|OCP, but I can't find the exact link to the program.
But will this program remove all the crap that comes with even a fresh instalation of windows xp, eg, games, windows xp themes, messenger, msn explorer, windows media player, tour windows xp, windows movie maker, windows catalouge etc.. stuff like that? or am i ok to use this instalation of slimline modded windows with a propor product key and if i allready have a copy of windows xp which i do. woops megamaced, never noticed your post there, i would install linux, but there is no point on my neigbours pc, he is pretty old, and doesent really understand the basics of computing, and would find it impossible to learn linux, infact, he is such a noob at computing, he thinks i am a freaking genious lol, which i aint lol, so linux is a deffo no no
hehe lol, well i suppose its true, well, mandriva has loads of bloat, exept its all optional bloat, and even with it all installed, its even faster like 20x faster than windows at fresh install.
