Hi all Heres my problem: I have a pair of desktop stereo speakers and a headset/mic for game play. I have an onboard sound card which has the usual 3 jack plugs. Is it possible for the music/sound fx from the game play to come out of the desktop speakers and have the voice to come come out from the headphones? Thanks
you need this... 1 3.5mm male jack to 2 x 3.5mm female jack... Its just for splitting the output but input from your mic will remain in d same jack....
Thanks for your reply. Does that not mean that both audio will come out through the speakers as well as the head phones? As I would like to separate the audio - voice to go to head phones only and the in-game sound to go through the desktop speakers.
:doh: woops - thanks for the off topic note. I didnt realise you can add more than one sound card. Is there anything else I need to do, or will that do exactly what Im trying to do.

Hmmm, I dont like the word tricky. Confused now, dont know what to do? Any suggestions on a good sound card which will allow me to do this separate sound thing! Does it need to be, like a 5.1 chan card? Coz I only have 2 desktop speakers? Sorry to bombard you with loads of questions.
by saying tricky, i meant, the system may recognize only 1 card (even if there are 2 cards present, i don't know cos i've never done it (you could try PM Kananislove) if anyone knows, he will) you may get around this by adding a card from a different manufacurer no, the difference between a 5.1 card and a 2.1 card is software controlled no probs, that what HWF is here for[ot]i think 5.1 speaker system means 5.1 5 = 5 speakers 1 = 1 computer so a typical destop uses 2.1 (2 speakers, 1 computer)[/ot]
I don't know what you guys have over across the pond, but I was able to pick up a little mini-jack switch that does what you want at Radio Shack for $10. You might have to look around, but I would imagine you could find something like that. There's also a few older sound cards from Philips and Guillemot/Hercules that had a wire bundle which allowed for simultaneous use of a headset and speakers. You'd just switch between them in the driver control panel for the card. In my experience, using a splitter tends to have the sound heavy on one side (L or R), which is kind of annoying.

Yup! u can've 2 sound cards....Thats how some dj guys do their mixing...I've never done it personally as well coz may b i've neva required it..... If you want to switch your sound from Headphone to Speakers and from Speakers to Headphones then go with the Big B's suggestion....or go to any elctrical shop, they will make one for you... [ot] Nope!.... 5.1 means... 5 speakers and 1 subwoofer nd same as in 2.1.... [/ot]
