When will i experience shitty results with a Geforce Fx 5950?? I hear that directx 9 is crappy with Nvidia based chipsets. Unfortunately i found out about this about a month after i purchased an MSI 5950ultra :good: . Problem is, i haven't experienced any crappyness yet. I play Rainbow Six 3, Call of duty, and Prince of persia right now. are these DirectX 9 games? if not, what graphically demanding game will my card not be able to handle?
What you're playing right now are not DX9...probably DX8/8.1 at the most. If Half-Life 2 and Doom 3 hit, they will be DX9 titles for sure. FarCry is a DX9 title. Aside from the DX9 issue, the FX cards are pretty powerful, but that's a major thing that can't really be truly remedied with something simple like a driver update. While it will be able to run stuff in the future, you're looking at missing out on certain effects and probably some performance issues. It does have raw power, which has worked pretty well for nVidia, but that cannot make up for the design which lacks full DX9 compliance. The FX cards do have DX9, but it was nVidia's ideal version of it before DX9 was finalized by Microsoft. It's a hardware deal, and I'm quite sure you won't see a new revision of any FX chip because the new batch of video cards from ATi and nVidia should be on the shelves in a couple of months.
Oh okay, i have played farcry on my current system with the settings on very high and it ran smoothly. granted it was the demo- but thanx for the insight.
