Im currently using an ATI 9600 XT 128MB on my pc and im quite happy with it for my needs. A friend of mine is selling his rig without 256MB Gainward AGP GeForce 6600. He is giving it to me for free ! Should i install it or stay with my faithfull 9600XT ? Is it faster than the 9600XT ?
The 6600 is a much faster card than the 9600: more advanced GPU, better shaders, better memory throughput.
The 9600 is so "OLD SCHOOL" in performance! The 6600 is the way to go! SLI it and you've got a "thing" in your hands.
This is an AGP card and it's a standard 6600, I tihnk it's the 6600GT and higher that are ready for SLI.
The 6600 can do SLI, as nVidia has allowed for SLI'ing them through drivers for awhile now. The 6600GT's and above have an edge connector for implementing the SLI bridge.
Yup go with the 6600, you'll notice a big difference in all modern titles, especially ones like Doom 3 and Quake 4. Shader model 3 is nice too.
oops! dun mind my noobiness. I got too excited at posting my first reply. i just forgot that there was even an agp slot (so old).
