Is this PSU good?

hi there,im looking to buy a power supply unit..is Aopen or TT brand 400w PSU good?
ive got 2 HDDs 40g each..2 optical drives - cd writer and a dvd rom..ive got a geforcefx 5900xt card which also requires PS..ive a got a P4 2.8ghz 768mb RAM (256 + 512 ddr RAM)..i am currently using a 250w Aopen PSU..the geforce requires atleast 300w PSU..ive been using that card for about 8months..the card isnt working now..it doesnt display at all..so i thot it mite be the PSU..n either way i really do have to buy a new PSU coz 250w definitely isnt enough..i saw this TT brand 400w PSU at DickSmiths Electronics..i am not sure if it stands for thermaltake..thermaltake isnt written anywhere on the psu..n also pliz advice as to whether aopen is a good psu..
 
If your talking about the Tt 420W PurePower at DS, then i saw it too!
Get the Thermaltake unless the Aopen brand has better amperage!
 
It's what I bought and works awesome, very quiet and stable:) Get the thermaltake, Aopen is alright but they're not renouned for amazing psu's.

its not 420w purepower,n on the label its written in capital letters "TT" not "Tt"..its only 400w..n how do i know by looking on the label whether it has a good amperage n stuff..any pix of psu pliz to help me.coz im a no-gooder at that.theres so much stuff written on the psu i get confused..n is it possible for my video card to be damaged.coz it was running at 250w psu n it requires atleast 300w to run..i ddnt know that.. :confused:
 
If it says TT and has a orange star around it, then it's thermaltake!
If there is'nt a picture on the side of the box showing the amperage then ask for a look!
 
nope its just written in plain blue text in capital letters TT..nothing orange n no star in there..
 
Don't think it's Thermaltake then, I've never seen it denoted as TT and there should definatly be a large strip of film noting the amerage per rail. If it were thermaltake the 12v rail would say 18A or 18amps which is fine as themaltake makes good products. Might wan't to look elsewear I'm afraid.
 
Definitely not a ThermalTake unit. I'm not sure how solid AOpen's power supplies are, but between that generic TT unit and the AOpen, I'd go with the AOpen since I've actually heard of them and used some of their stuff.
 
thanks alot guys..i had this weird feeling that it wasnt thermaltake cos of the way it was written in caps..but i really need to know whether a psu is good or not by looking at the label on it..whats this 12v rail?

Well your outta luck there!
Just looking at the label doesn't really tell you if it's a good PSU or not, the only way to be remotely sure is to write down the Model number and search the net for reviews on it. Or alternatively, if you know someone that has the same PSU, ask them how good it is!

It's doubtful it's been damaged, if you were running it under-powered it wouldn't damage it, just make the computer freeze or shut down!
Good luck on choosing a new PSU :)

Actually, low power is quite capable of causing system damage. Hopefully that's not the case, just FYI.
