is this the right memory?

Hi yes that is the correct spec ram for the motherboard, but I wouldn't buy cheap brands of ram. Go for brands such as OCZ, Corsair, G-Skill etc. Well known brands. Also buy a dual channel kit as your board supports dual channel configuration. dual channel will make a big difference as the cpu can request x2 the amount of bandwidth than single channel.

yes, bobby is right. it is correct ram for the motherboard which is told by you. But the memory is not good brand. Please buy the memory of OCZ, Corsair, Kingston, Geil ..... These branded memory ram are good in performance. :)

okay, i put the ram in but it's only recognizing 1 gig and single channel. how do i get that mobo to recognize both sticks and as dual channel?

thanks!

edit: also, the 2 sticks i pulled out, thinking it was 2 sticks of 256 were actually 2 sticks of 512, it was only recognizing one of those too

can i just write the bios update to cd and boot from it? kind of new to this sort of thing

edit: it's not recognizing any ram in slot #1

seems like you run it from windows. just run the .exe make sure all firewalls and antivirus are disabled. once flashed your system will post just make sure you load bios defaults. and then check to see if it's detected your ram.

can you recommend a better (but inexpensive) motherboard to replace the one it has? it has an amd athlon 64 3000+ chip installed and the ram i purchased i would also like to use in the new one.

no matter which ram stick i put in slot #1, it won't recognize any, seems like the motherboard is shot. can you tell me what one i can use to replace it?

yea the dimm is buggered. the controller is fine because it obviously posts. It's up to you, you can run it on single channel or upgrade to a new motherboard?
