Recently unplugged my ps2 mouse and keyboard and attached usb mouse and keyboard. Everything worked fine. However, returned to my ps2 mouse and keyboard yesterday and they dont work. I have no input device in windows (although both mouse and keyboard operate until windows loads, so I am able to access pc setup and boot screens). In haste, I tried to reinstall windows, but now I am stuck in the middle of installation and cant press ok to continue. Can anyone please help?
You didn't need to reinstall Windows! There will be a setting in the BIOS to enable PS/2 mouse and keyboard.
Bios setting for PS2 connection is enabled. the mouse and keyboard work until windows starts loading... then they stop... what if I use the original usb keyboard and mouse that worked before I chabged back to PS2? is this likely to make any difference? I had tried another USB mouse but this didnt work...
Did you install a brand new copy of Windows ie: completely reformat the hard drive and install a fresh copy. Or did you install a clean version whilst in Windows If the first statement is true, you should try reseting the CMOS via the jumpers (You need to take the battery out, then put it in 5 seconds later). If the second statement is true, Window's will still think your USB keyboard and mouse are present. Because every USB mouse is different (they may use different drivers), Your new USB mouse may not work with the other USB mouse driver. You will need to completely uninstall all mouse and keyboard drivers via the device manager (or possibly add/remove programs in the control panel), then restart your computer and plugin the Ps/2 devices.
