Firstly, I'd like to say a big hi to all you and thanks for having me on board. Hope that wemay be able to help each other and maybe I could add something to the board! ;)

My sister's laptop fan appears to have failed in some way. When the power is turned on the fan spins for a second or two before stopping dead.
She said that the computer was shutting down on her which alerts me to the fact it may be overheating. So when I took a look at teh fan that's when I discovered that it may have failed.

The laptop is an Advent 7081.

So what do you guys think?

Thanks in advance and again Hi to you all.

I suspect overheating is causing it to shutdown, as you suggested. I'd take it to a local computer shop since laptops aren't the easiest things to work with.
