Laptop Monitor Power Saving query

Hello all. I would like to ask if it is possible for me to save some energy at all. I am a regular listener of internet radio which is international.

What I normally do is listen to the radion on the laptop and connect my wirless speaker and listen it around the house which is fantastic.

The problem I have that I would like to switch the laptop monitor ONLY off so to save some energy. If I am not on the net via POWER OPTIONS I have set to one minute for the monitor to go off it does do. But if I go on the net and listen live radio it still stays switched on. I have even closed the lid for a while but the monitor still stays on.

I have messed about with all the power option and have stated each setting to switch off within a minute but it doesn't

Please help and thank you

Tony

Really? Your monitor stays on when you close the lid? That's strange. I have a laptop also, and in the "Advanced" tab in the Power Options, I have it like this: under the headline, "When I close the lid of my computer:", I have it set to "do nothing". (The other options are either to stand by or to hibernate.) This is in WinXP, by the way. However, when I shut my lid, I can clearly tell that the light switches off when it touches down all the way, and I can see it light up when I budge the lid a little. So that would be my solution for you: simply close the lid, and have it set to "do nothing" as I do, so it doesn't start hibernating or whatever when you didn't want it to.

Perhaps this has something to do with the way the laptop was designed and cannot be changed by software?? But I was under the impression that all laptops I've ever seen turn off their screen when you close the lid...
