This is a laptop screen replacement guide done on a gateway NV53A24U laptop with 15.6 inch screen. Replacement on this model is not very difficult, everything comes off reasonably easy and there is no hidden cables or connections that can be broken during the process. I used a fine screwdriver set, but regular screwdriver should work as well, as the screws are normal size. Before starting, remove the battery from the laptop. Step 1. Remove protective caps off of the top of two screws hold the plastic frame of the screen. Step 2. Remove the silver screws. Step 3. The plastic frame holding the screen can now be removed by hand. it is secured on the edges by simple plastic wedges, but these can be undone easily by just running you finger around the edge, and they should all snap out. once that is done the silver part that is on the hindge and just be slid off and the frame can be removed. Laptop will look like this now. Step 4. Four black screws holding the monitor to the plastic back cover need to be removed. Be sure to hold the cover as you are unscrewing these as there is wiring that is connected to the screen and could be broken if the back cover fell. Step 5. Picture below (shot from the top) shows the webcam connection cable that is attached to the back of the screen. Slowly peel it off. Step 6. Back of the screen looks like this. Step 7. Video connection to the screen is taped, so remove that and carefully unplug the cable. Step 8. There is 6 screws that are on the side holding the screen. Remove those and then take off the screen. Step 9. Place the new screen, and tighten only 2-4 screws just to hold it in place. Connect the video cable to test if everything is working properly. Step 10. If so, in reverse order as described above, install the remaining screws and the frame. and that's it! I have purchased the screen from www.laptopscreen.com, with the option of it being mat or glossy.
