i am thinking about saving up for a laptop, i want a laptop so i can take it to college and use it instead of using the crap DELL computers that they have, i mainly want to use it for work, but i would want to play far cry/doom3/bf2 on it, i cant really find any decent laptops, but i want a laptop for about £300-£400 thats either got a graphics card thats as good as a 9600np or better.

i would also want a laptop with a decent processor in, any suggestions of what laptop i should think about getting?

You'll be hard pressed to find a laptop that will play games with at least M10 graphics for that price. My Acer has a mobility radeon X700, which is good for almost all games on medium/high settings. Its battery life is decent too, around 2:30 light use, over 3 idle. However it was £625.

Sorry but for that price you're only hope is Ebay or Amazon uk. I couldn't find ANY £400 laptops let alone ones suitable for gaming. If I was to actually find something the very best you could do would be X300 and good luck playing Doom3 or FEAR on that on higher settings. The other let down is it would only come with about 256Mb's of ram:( When all is said and done you'll need to spend at least £500 on one, and even then you'll have to look around a lot. Sorry but gaming laptops just don't come that cheap.
Either way look for Pentium M if you can. Celeron M is just not the same. Semprons are pretty good really and Turion is the ultimate for the price. An X300 will play older games well and even some less demanding newer titles but if you plan on keeping it for awhile it may let you down. A 9600 would be pretty good but it will probably cost you. The reality is you'll have to raise the old budget or go without gaming:(

this is what i wuoldent mind
a laptop for playing games like doom3 and fear and far cry on medium to low settings, internet surfing, and work, as long as it is ok, has 512mb ram, and somthing like 60gb hard drive, that would do

Are you saying you wouldn't mind raising the price? I can't find any laptops in you're price range with actual gfx cards. I looked through Dabs, OC UK, and Kelkoo and nothing promising came up:(

Too bad it's all integrated gfx:( I doubt you'd be playing Doom 3 on those sis chips. Maybe in windowed mode but when it looks that bad it totally ruins the mode and makes you feel like you're playing the origional instead of the next gen edtion. You're best bet is finding one with an Xpress 200 IGP, it's about as good as a X300 64Mb so you can at least attempt to play games.

i might just get a cheap £200 one, afterall i now only want it for somthing l,ike rct2 and surfind internet downstairs, my tutor at college reccomended i not bring a laptop into college as it could get nicked, and they would have a super hard time connecting it to the network.
