Just a note to say Beryl 0.1.5 has been released and packages are available for Dapper and Edgy:

    The Dapper repo is:

    Code:
    deb http://download.tuxfamily.org/3v1deb dapper beryl-svn
    deb-src http://download.tuxfamily.org/3v1deb dapper beryl-svn
    And the Edgy repo is:

    Code:
    deb http://download.tuxfamily.org/3v1deb edgy beryl-svn
    deb-src http://download.tuxfamily.org/3v1deb edgy beryl-svn
You need to import the repository key by typing:

    Code:
    KEY=81836EBF; gpg --keyserver subkeys.pgp.net --recv $KEY && gpg --export --armor $KEY | sudo apt-key add -

Beryl 0.1.5 is great, I personally love the splash screen :p

The settings window is much easier to work around now as things are grouped and not just all displayed at the same time. There's also a new 'snow' effect to make it look like it's snowing on your desktop :D

My Geforce 5200 arrived today so I was finally able to get XGL/Beryl installed on my main Kubuntu box. I have to say that Beryl works much, much better on GNOME. I've been getting all sorts of problems like Kicker and the taskbar playing up. Then Beryl defaulting to Kwin and being very slow as a result.
Beryl 0.1.5 is a hugh improvement overall though and the redesigned settings manager is better. I like the Beryl SVN logo but I want to disable it! There used to be an option to do so in the older versions but I can't seem to find it in 0.1.5!

Matt555, have you configured XGL/Beryl as a startup session in KDM or does it run in the default KDE session?

It's a separate session, I get the option to use either KDE or XGL.

Has anyone been using this repository? I've just upgraded to Beryl 0.2.0 SVN and to say it's slick is an under statement. The control panel has been totally revised and it sports lovely new icons. I've noticed that Beryl feels more stable overall as well. That horrible flicker that occurs when Beryl replaces Metacity (or KWin) when you log in has gone. Now the process is smooth

I've decided to configure Xgl to load before GDM. You don't get the flicker that way, like you do when you configure it as a session.

BTW, if anyone wants to know how to set up XGL + Beryl on Dapper, i've just created a Wiki page @ the Beryl Wiki

I've got an update for beryl waiting, but it's for beryl plugins and won't update :(

Also Beryl hasn't been loading the Window manager in an XGL session, it's uber annoying, I've been using KDE more recently though, Beryl's good for showing off but I got a little bit bored of it to be honest :p

Yeah, I've found Beryl on Kubuntu Dapper Drake pretty crap. KDE 3.5.2 doesn't work well with it. To be honest, I won't touch Beryl on my Kubuntu machine.
Beryl have made a KDE specific window manager but it's only available for Edgy

But.... Beryl on Ubuntu Dapper Drake is awe inspiring. It executes flawlessly and integrates really well. Theres a new feature where if you hover your mouse over the GNOME taskbar, a mini preview of the window pops up. It's really neat.

But alas, I can't use GNOME and it's associated GTK applications for long because they irritate me :D
