when i turn my monitor on, the backilight stays on for about 2 or 3 seconds and sometimes about 1 second, then it goes out, at first i thought it was the monitor, but i carefully inspected it after the light went out and saw that a FAINT outline of everything was still there and when i bring up the monitor menu i can see it FAINTLY also. can anyone tell me how to correct this? i dont think the backlight is bad because it is verybright when it is on those 2 seconds or so. thanks everyone.
You'll still see the image (just) because the LCD panel itself is still working, its just not being lit up for you to see. CCF lamps rarely fail. Its more likely to be an inverter that needs replacing as these are far more prone to failure. Personally I would just take it to a repair shop and let somebody else do it but if you feel a little adventurous you can do it yourself as LCD panels are far less dangerous than their CRT predecessors. Google and you'll likely find instructions and suppliers for parts.
