Lcd Monitor Question

I am moving into a 1bd apt, size of a rat hole, anybody have any ideas on a decent LCD monitor which would double as an acceptable TV? I will go crazy if I can't play madden!!!
 
Unless you can shell out some serious cash, LCD's aren't that great, IMO. But for good stuff, Samsung seems to make some really good displays.
 
how much are you looking to spend? it will be quite hard to find a good one on the cheap!
 
Not more than $500 for 17" or below......I could stretch but depends on some other factors. On www.refurbdepot.com the had a 37" Phillips Plasma for only $1350 so 1650 after shipping but its not listed anymore so I guess it was a one time thing. I get a bit ridiculous from time to time but $500 is the benchmark
 
Personally, I wouldn't buy a display without seeing it first. You're going to be looking at it for awhile, so I'd make sure my money is going to be well spent.
 
They are alot of money compared to CRT's, but i have 2 LCD screens, i have a 21" Philips LCD(bout 5 months old) and a 15" IIyama (very old), and its lovely i'm running 1280x1024 @ 75 or 80hz, and they are really nice to game / work on, i double mine as a TV, i have a TV card in my computer, and the cable from the dish straight into my card.

If your going to get an LCD screen, save your money into a seperate account or something specifically for your LCD until you have enough money to buy a really good LCD screen, its well worth it, and u will think of spending it on other things or not spending it on a monitor at all, but once u get one, u wont regret it :)
 
LCDs are not worth the money unless you absolutely must have one.They are inferior to CRTs in so many ways it's ridiculous, not to mention the huge price difference. The biggest downside to LCDs (besides performance) is their average lifespan. They tend to last about 1/10 to 1/4 as long as a quality CRT, and even if they continue to function their quality degrades rapidly. They dim quite noticably, and sometimes get a yellow tint. Also, pixels tend to "die", and you actually have purple or black dots on your screen. Unfortunately, most LCD companies will not replace an LCD, even under warranty, unless 12 or more pixels are blown.

There you have it, my advice from experience. Take it or leave it! :o
