LCD TV's (Please Help)

Hi all, (I do apologies now if this topic is in the wrong area)...

I am hoping to buy an HDTV sometime this month and am aiming to buy one around 40" with a price tag of about £1000 (give or take 10%).

I have looked around thoroughly for one, and have seen some great ones, however I just don't know which one to get. I have looked at loads of brands, such as Samsung, Sony, Phillips, LG, Toshiba and so on, but I do not know which to get. I hear Samsung are the best?? (Correct me please if I am wrong though).

Please, those with experience in this field if you could please guide me in the right direction.

Which make should I go for, and of these makes, which produces the best LCD HDTV @ 40"??

In addition, I am looking for an HDTV which i can connect my Xbox360 to, using the HD AV component cable, so I will need one with that output, in addition to the TV also having HDMI outputs.

I am not sure what else to be looking for other than fast response times, good ratios and so on.

Thank you very much for any help. It will be very much appreciated.

Toshiba used to be pretty good, but they've been getting some pretty bad marks for customer service. Samsung is like Sony in that the products are awesome, but you don't pay an arm and a leg. I've not been that impressed with Philips, but I know some people love them. I don't think their displays are as sharp as others, but that's just from checking them out in-store.

The lower response time, the better. A higher contrast ratio is also preferred. However, look at them in action, as specs only tell part of the story. How far away you'll be sitting will also make a major difference. The closer you are, the sharper you'll want the display to be.

Besides Sony, Samsung, and LG, Westinghouse has gotten a lot of buzz, and they have 42" LCD HDTV's for under $1000 US. I don't know if that brand's available to you, but they're not that bad.

ok thanks man, i'll keep looking around. i will be sitting around 4 ft away from my tv or so, maybe a little farther, i dnt like to sit too close lol.
about the HD AV component cable for the Xbox 360, will that be able to connect to ne HD TV? or should i look for a special port like scart or something. it doesnt use HDMI unfortunatly, but i will need HDMI for other things like HD DVD player etc.

From what I've seen you typically have S-Video, Component Video and HDMI...at least one input of each, and usually multiples. This will depend on the unit, but when I was shopping around, any HDTV LCD had those.

umm i see, ok then. thanx a lot bud. will keep checking around - i think i have a familiar idea of what i will be getting. thnx for the help :D
