Guys, I'm doing a PC build for a buddy and am having some concerns over CPU installation. It's a Pentium D 775 going into an Asus P5L-MX 945G 775. Now I've never done this so maybe I'm just overly cautious here, but one I place the CPU into the slot, no matter what I do there is a bit of horizontal wiggle. The gold key is definitely orientad properly and the cpu is being inserted with the correct side up (the silver side is up). Now as I bring the plate down I'm very nervous as the CPU seems to move a bit as I do so. I'm very hesitant to apply more force here and wanted to ask if this sort of thing was normal under the LGA 775 installation procedure. Definitely trying to avoid being those pins. Any help is appreciated. Tom
Hi tom, Have you made sure the lever is all the way down? It should clip under a tag on the side of the socket. It can be unexpectantly tough on a new Mobo. The chip should be very hard to move if done so. I think in this instance you're right to be cautious. Regards, Glenn
I'm not a real fan of the LGA style myself, but the clasp that goes down first should go down pretty easily. The lever is going to take some pressure, but that's what holds the CPU firmly in place...which is what you want. Mine fired up just fine, although I definitely was a little apprehensive about it. It's just not the usual as we're used to the pins being on the CPU.
