I've just built a rig which includes A8R32-mvp deluxe motherboard and Asus radeon 1900xtx and logitech z-5500 speakers. I was getting all sorts of error messages on bootup and turning off- I discovered it was my audigy 2nx sound card so I reverted to the onboard sound (realtek), and uninstalled the audigy (for now). When I do the tests with the onboard gizmos all the speakers work fine so we are connected and they are functioning correctly. The drivers are up to date. But when I play music and games the rear speakers don't work, depsite the diagnostics telling me they should. I don't understand why they are not working. Any ideas? I've googled but have not found a solution.
Are there any options in-game for surround sound? For music you probably won't get audio through the back speakers as music's generally in stereo. A sound card should be able play audio through rear speakers in a surround sound setup but it's mainly PCI soundcards that do it, I don't use on-board audio myself so I can't say whether your on-board sound card would have that option.
In which case this explains why I'm not getting music out of all my speakers as I did when I had my audigy 2 nx sound card! I did not know music is only stereo, which explains why I paid £:swear: for the sound card. Researching and building the rig is one thing but getting it to work smoothly is another. I'll start working on resolving the difficulties with the sound card and get it re-installed asap. Thanks for your time and expertise.
Yeah my Audigy sound card does have an option to send audio through all the speakers however the music is still in stereo (2 channel, left and right etc etc) sound.
how are your logitech z-5500 speakers connected to the pc, Direct, Coaxial or Optical? you need use either coaxial or optical to have true 5.1 surround sound using these speakers i belive, well thats what it seems, i am running them throug direct, and i cant really get true 5.1 surround sound. For games i select PLII Movie effect, and for music i select PLII Music. You can get music through the back speakers when the music is in stereo, select Stereo 2x effect.
i have 5.1 and i can listen to music coming from all speakers. First, go to your realtek sound manager and head over to the speaker configuration tab. there should be a pulldown menu that has options for your speaker setup. make sure its on 6ch speakers, test them all by clicking each speaker. if you get sound out of each one, then you know all is well as far as the hardware is concerned. Next, although music is set up for stereo, that doesn't mean that sound won't come out of every speaker, just set up your media player's output to hardware acceleration. I use winamp, whichever one is the latest, and i go to preferences, then select output, and hit config. keep it on primary sound driver, but click the box that says "allow hardware acceleration" once you restart the song, it should come out of every speaker with glorious subwoofing power. hope this works as far as the realtek is concerned. I have no idea about other sound cards.
