Recently my PSU died, and I have a suspicion that it occured because of the many electrical storms my area endured over the past few months (the computer was plugged in, but not in use at the time). It was connected through a generic power bar IIRC, but I'm looking for something a bit more hefty.

I'm not really sure whether I should be looking at a UPS or just a plain surge suppressor/protector. They have something like this: Newegg.com - APC P8VT3 6 feet 8 Outlets 1750 Joules Home/Office Surge Protector - Surge Suppressors at the radioshack across the street, but I'm not really sure what I should be looking for in a surge protector.

Also, what are the advantages to me of a UPS over a surge protector. I understand that it keeps your computer going temporarily in the case of a power outage, but I don't really do much important work nor really even use this computer for anything very important (mostly games). So I'm wondering if this extra expenditure has much benefit to me.

    Thanks, Putter
