lose desktop please help

running win xp. lose desktop all i hve is the color , no tray, no icons and nothing but a blank screen. using task mgr to run programs. please help to restore all.

IF that happened to me, I'd try to backup any important files and I'd reinstall windows from scratch, after a format of course.
