Here it is, I was happly copying a CD when the guy from sky came to install my new Sky+ before my system when to :swear: I came back after he did his magic and noticed my monitor was off, thinking this was just hibernating. I tryed moving the mouse, etc to wake it up but then i just switched it off and thought nothing of it. Came to using it tonight and it was acting really weared. Was hanging at detecting my SATA drives. Any how i thought it has switched some how to my back up bios so i switched it off, unpluged the SATA drives and looked into my bios, nothing wrong so i slaped my SATA drives back and switched on... then nothing. No beeps, no screen just the system power going on but no activty. Any how as suggested here I cleared my cmos, changed the ram with out any luck. its a Gigabyte 8IK1100 and i have had this probblem before but when it was in warrenty so i got a replacemnt. Its defantly dead i think but I really need to get my pictures etc thats on the raid setup. can I buy a replacement of the same board and still find the raid arry i've set up, to get my files or will I just have to live with the fact i've lost everything :swear:
What kind of PSU do you have in that thing? Motherboards don't just die randomly, not even low end boards like Gigabyte. (On the contrary, I've found Gigabyte to be a very stable motherboard). As for your RAID, if you replace it with an identical motherboard it may still work, but honestly there's really no telling with a software RAID in Windows. Sorry.
its a Targan 380wat PSU which has been quite stable. it has two SATA drives running a DVDRW drive an Asus TOP 6600GT running on the dedicated graphic power cord and a sound blaster audigy 2 ZS in a pci slot. Finaly there is a coolermaster jet4 running and two 120mm fans and a 90mm fan all on the sam psu. My pc last up grade was the cpu and graphics which was before a 2.8ghz but now 3.4 and an ATI 9600 pro all on the sam psu. Could you think this is a power probblem? I mean i swtich it on, i see the fans go and then hear the hard drives etc spin but i dont get any post beeps. it just sits there as discribed.
Tagan is a good brand, but you are pushing that PSU to the very limits of its specifications. I estimate that with no extra devices plugged in, e.g. USB, you are teetering on the edge of 380watts. The extra few watts required by things like USB mice, HDDs, whatever could push it over the edge. Also, the amperage is certainly in question, as PSUs are typically not intended to be pushed quite so hard to the limits of their capacity. For your specs, I'd recommend a good brand PSU (Tagan/ePower is fine, or Thermaltake, Enermax, Antec...) with good amperage and at least 450watts. Maybe more, if you plan on adding a higher-end video card in the future, or perhaps more HDDs. -AT
So your most certen then this is a power probblem? See this is why I hate sales people, i know my FSB's and stuff but when it comes to working how much power in your psu you need i'm lost. If I unplug a few devices such as IDE SATA drives today should I recive a bit more power to see if this is indeed the probblem before I go buy a 480wat Targan? As you can tell I just want to make sure before I go spend my dosh. thanks again for all your help. p.s is there a guide or something on how to work out how much power a system needs etc?
http://www.hardwareforums.com/power-supplies-you-why-you-dont-want-cheap-psu-updated-9-2-05-a-5218/ a very good explanation on power supplies, and problems often caused by them.
Well, each component has its own somewhat unique power consumption needs. When you add the total and provide for 10-25% power spikes under heavy system activity, you end up with your number. But a power supply is much more than just wattage. Check out our thread on the issue. Unfortunately, just providing more power won't fix the problem if your hardware is already damaged. In that case it would only prevent the damage of other components in the future. -AT
sounds like from what your all saying is right. I tryed unpluging all my devices and booting up again but with no luck. I might have had a spike in power when i was away from the computer which blew my board, but doesn't make sence how i could had got into bios once then not again. It's really anoying though as I upgraded everything just back in july. Getting back to rescuing my raid data files though how do i go about it? Is there any hope in hell as I know i should had backed up but dam it i just had my server crap out on me the day before when i tryed to mess about with linux and :swear: my partions.
