For years, my PC with a GTS 8500 card has worked flawlessly. There was a special in Newegg for a GT 240 EVGA card. Rather than upgrading my system, I basically killed it and need help in figuring out what happened. As soon as I put in the new card, the PC would not boot up. I thought that my PS was not powerful enough so I quickly turned it off and reseeded the old card. That too had the same problem. I gutted my other PC's PS and put it in this one, without any video card, the PC doesn't even start POST. I took off all the devices including the memory and I get a beeping sound every second. I put in 2 sticks of memory and I am back where I started. Has anyone ever seen this before? Is my new video card defective and in turn killed my mobo? Any help would help. Thanks.
Lets try and figure out what those beeps are trying to tell us. Beeps are actually codes that tell us where the problem lies. So tell me, how many beeps do you hear and give me the EXACT make and model of your motherboard.
With sticks of memory installed, there are no beeps. When I power it up, the CPU fan just spins and that is it; the monitor has no signal and goes back to sleep. I have ordered a replacement MOBO along with a PS. I hope i can divide and conquer this problem. I am pretty much banking that the CPU will be working. My current MOBO is a MCP61PM-GM. Thanks.
