I'm currently running Mandriva 2006 and am very happy with it. I'm hearing good things about Mandriva 2007 (beta) and was thinking of an upgrade.

I've never done a Linux upgrade before, so would it work like Windows - where you just 'upgrade' and retain all your files, programs and settings of the previous version, or do you have to start over?

Lastly, do you think trying Mandriva 2007 would be a prudent move, as it's at beta stage?

    Cheers,

    David.

I am not familiar with Mandriva but usually an upgrade is pretty painless. All of your personal settings will be retained. The only distribution that I had trouble upgrading was SUSE.

Personally I would wait til Mandriva 2007 has been released before you try it. Obviously your 2006 edition is running smoothly so why fix something if it's not broken? :)

It is quit easy to do, but I suggest waiting for the final release (its pretty close anyway, with Release Candidate 1). There may be one or two issues left to fix, but overall its fine.

RC2 just came out, they must have fixed a lot of bugs.
