Yes, Mandriva works with Smart and apt-get in addition to it's native urpmi. That said, what's wrong with urpmi?
wait, thats not what i'm asking, or i'm confused. Anyways can i install multiple package managers at the same time and i think Mandriva 2007 uses rpmdrake, or that might be the same thing different name. Well nothing really, i was just going to see if i like one of the other ones better. I was looking at yum and synaptic, but i know synaptic is specifically for apt's so i might be able to find something i wouldn't be able to through rpmdrake, that or i'll just have a useless app and it will do the same thing....
Mandriva is based on rpm, and so all system files are packaged in this format. You can use different package managers, but you can't easily use different package formats without having dependency problems. rpmdrake is a Mandriva specific front-end for urpmi.
right, didn't really think about dependencies, that said, my desktop is all messed up, the menu bar disappeared and the updates aren't installing right. I might have messed something up or just not installed it correctly the first time (which i had a feeling i did) so i think i'm going to re-install Mandriva and pay a little closer attention to what i'm doing this time. (granted, last install was around 2 or 3 in the morning after i got some homework done)
Synaptic software manager is available for mandriva, however like urpmi, the addresses for the package repos are selected/added later. Smart package manager is very similar to the way synaptic looks and smart has some interesting features like "fix". The whole package system is different between rpm and deb. Thatś why youĺl have dependency problems if you tried deb on mandriva. You can normally find your favourite program in source files, perhaps ./config and make your own install. Cheers, Glenn
