Just bought a 200gb Maxtor One Touch II external backup drive. Not a bad unit. Got it at Best Buy on sale for $149.99. Took several attempts to get it configured. It kept telling me there was not enough space on the drive to back up my PC's hard drive... odd as my PC only has 15gb used... Anyhow I got it running after a few re-installs. Unfortunately I can't say the same for my GF.. Her PC is the exact same Dell I have and she bought the EXACT same Maxtor drive.. for some reason I am having a heck of a time getting hers to work right... grrrrr..
Could you be a little more specific in regards to the problem? What version of Windows are you using? Does Windows detect the new drive? Have you formatted the drive? The more information you provide, the better placed we are to help you troubleshoot
Windows XP. It recognizes the drive. I have formatted the drive... I have uninstalled and re-installed the software several times and still get the same "Not enough room on destination drive" error message..
Which drivers are you using, Your manufacturer's drivers or Windows built in drivers? You should have a look in 'Disk Management' to see how your hard drive is configured. You can reach it by clicking Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management (you will see it down the left hand side). You MUST format the drive to NTFS, as FAT16 tables can only access 2GB of hard drive space. You should check the device manager and see if your device has any conflicts. Click Control Panel > System > Hardware Tab > Device Manager Button. Find your hard drive and double-click it's entry. You will be able to administrate from here.
