Right.... Remote access to my Maxtor shared storage ethernet HDD

im going to be buying a laptop as my home Pc has died. i was wondering if any of you nice people know if it is possible to access my files on my external drive while im away from home>?

at home i will only have left my router (linksys WRT54G) connected to my HDD (as above)

is it possible to set some thing up with out the aid of a PC at home to enable me to access files on my HDD.

i think i have sorted out the static ip with the use of dyndns.com and the router updating the ip when it changes.

I dont think the maxtor drive has ad FTP stuff on it or if that is the way to go, but it does have NAS server whick is ok for connectin to kit thats on my network but not when im away from home.

can you install software onto the HDD to enable it to do this?

So to clear it up after all that waffle above:

    home: router and HDD
away: my laptop and internet connection.

can i access files on the HDD from te other side of the world with out a pc at my house?

thank you clever people for trying to help me

    Matt

P.s. i feel bad about useing this site as i dont know much about computers and when i find a topic i do know some one has already answered the question.
