Hey guys, Giving away one of my computers (yes, giving!) to a mate to be used as a media center, its just sitting around getting even older so i would prefer that it goes to some sort of use! (And he has a nice big fat TV) Plan is to dual boot between Windows 2000 & Linux (Ubuntu Edgy), the linux side will be Media (DVD's, Video [DivX etc], Music, and TV Capture) and the windows side will be for games (Will be used as little as possible ). Need to buy: Graphics card (for the TV Out, only has onboard graphics atm) TV Capture Card (so it can control TV Channels) and a wireless card (a neighbour is kindly letting us use there wireless ). Setting up windows & linux (and running automatix) will be no bother, but i have no experiance with MythTV... has anyone ever played with it or have a similar setup? AMD64 Semperon 2700+, 512MB PC2700, hopefuly getting a GF4 MX440 (AGP8x 128MB) in the next few days (only needs to play video's, music and play diablo!)
LOL. MythTV = Lose Hair I had some success using this guide. However I never managed to set up the EPG channel data correctly. If you are going to buy a TV card you should get a Hauppauge card. They are well supported in Linux EDIT: Oh I see it's been updated for Edgy and looks a bit easier then it was on Dapper. If I upgrade to Edgy I might give it another go....
Forgot to mention KnoppMyth, based on Knoppix. KnoppMyth is a LiveCD that will automatically detect your TV card and completely configure MythTV for you! I think you can install it as well
